Is a Dobermann a suitable breed of dog for you and your family?
I am a small select hobbyist breeder my dogs are my family. Occasionally I have to breed to keep some of the very special bloodlines that I have created over the last 30 years. Some of the information below will help to answer the questions you may have.
As with all my puppies they will have their
first vaccination and will be wormed several times, they will be vet checked,
tattooed, chipped and Dew claws will be removed.
As per current laws in Australia tail docking and ear cropping is against the law!
All my puppies have natural tails and ears.
I have been involved in this breed and associated sports for over 30 years. Due to many years of experience I carefully select the best fit puppy for each and individual home. Many generations of careful selection and breeding from dogs with great temperaments and structure/confirmation and major focus on health and genetic diversity, our puppies have a lot of character and personality not to mention stunning good looks and most importantly great health results! :)
I believe in a home type environment and I do not keep my dogs in kennels. This limits the amount of dogs I keep as they need to get along and I need time for them.
The majority of our dogs i show, use at stud and or breed from, live with families in home environments all over the country. I do not spare any expense in importing dogs into this country to introduce new bloodlines and expand the gene pool from some of the best dogs all over the world.
All the parents of the above litters have been tested for known testable diseases such as Von Willenbrands, the only so far 2 known genes for Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) and Dings, and are clear/free/negative! I DNA test all my dogs through laboratories in the USA who are world leaders in all the tests that are specific to Dobermanns.
I also perform periodical blood tests on all our dogs to make sure their organs and liver is functioning correctly especially before breeding.
As per my agreement I also offer a genetic health guarantee.
We do not sell our dogs for breeding purposes. All our puppies are placed in homes as pets/companions and deterrents of unwanted intruders on limited register.
However since we can not keep too many dogs, we occasionally like to find homes for some pups in the litter where they will be made available for showing and possibly to be used for breeding only by me, so the
blood line is not lost.
I encourage people to do as much with their
dogs as possible including showing, obedience, agility, tracking, endurance and
any other sports. I offer life time support and advice to all who have my dogs including keeping everyone up to date on diet etc through my emails and email list. I am currently on the NSW Dobermann club's committee.
Where possible I also like to deliver, and meet the family and see where the puppy is going to live if distance is not an issue.
I provide new owners with extensive information packs
about feeding, diet and care. Including a book and sample foods where possible.
You must be prepared to provide a biologically species appropriate
natural raw diet and supplements and continue feeding what the pup is accustomed to eating and what is best for its growth and development.
Organizing flights to any major airport is not a problem, and I personally deliver
and lodge the pup at Sydney airport for interstate
